Scout Days

Scout Days are opportunities for Scouts and their families to receive discounts on events with our community partners. Many of our partners also offer merit badge classes and advancement workshops for Cub Scouts and Webelos.


The National Weather Service Houston/Galveston office offers free Skywarn classroom and webinar training courses on how to spot and report severe weather. Scouters are invited to attend.​ Upcoming training sessions are posted here.
 


 

Bayou Land Conservancy is now offering free workshop opportunities for Scouts to help you earn advancement requirements in a unique manner while having a hands-on experience outdoors. iFLY offers special rates and programs for Scout outings! STEM summer camp programs are available for Scout groups of 20 or more and participants will receive a special iFLY patch.  To reserve your space or for more information, contact iFLY Houston at (281) 295-1761 or aburchett@iflyworld.com.


Main Event offers all-access passes to Scouts. The pass includes four hours of unlimited activities (e.g., bowling, laser tag), two slices of pizza, drink, $10 card, and patch for $20.95 per person. A private room is available.

Master the maritime skills needed to navigate the open ocean. Discover the value of teamwork when working with your crew and meet old friends and new ones. ​Cub Scouts can attend Splash Weekends to earn requirements towards the new aquatics program and a variety of STEM / Nova classes. Boy Scouts can attend weekend adventures and summer high adventure activities. Adventures include a variety activities such as kayaking, small boat sailing, big boat sailing, beach volleyball. scuba diving, crew-to-crew competition, STEM/Nova courses and more.

Join the Houston Dynamo as they take on the Minnesota United FC for Scout Day with the Houston Dynamo. Tickets are $25. The first 100 purchasers can participate in the rally in the tunnel. The first 250 purchasers will receive a Houston Dynamo Scout patch. All participants can watch a post match movie at the stadium. August 20, 2017 vs A's

Join us at Minute Maid Park for Scout Day with the Houston Astros. The game begins at 1:10 pm. All participants will get a patch. Scouts in uniform can participate in the pre-game parade; line up at the right field gate at 10:30 am; specific instructions will be emailed about a week before the game.  Scouts can also run the bases after the game; line up after the game by section 132 in the line towards the center field side and then after they go down the steps, pick them up by section 126. Sample pricing: Section 409-411 is $11; 413-425 is $13; 106 and 132-134 is $35. The Houston Museum of Natural Science offers a variety of classes for Scouts.​​

  • Tigers, Wolves, and Bears can work towards Adventures in two-hour classes. Up to two classes can be taken in one day and entrance to the general exhibits is included. Classes are offered throughout the school year on Saturdays.
  • Adventures can be earned by Webelos in two-hour classes on Saturdays through the school year. Up to two classes can be taken in one day and entrance to the general exhibits is included. Adventures in Science, Art Explosion, Earth Rocks, Engineer, Into the Wild, Into the Woods and First Responder (limited classes).
  • 13 merit badges are available for Boy Scouts at HMNS, including four Eagle Scout required badges: Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, and Communications. All classes will use the resources at the museum’s disposal to help Scouts meet requirements. For example, Citizenship in the Nation students will visit the special exhibition The Bill of Rights as part of the class, and the Astronomy class uses the state-of-the-art Burke Baker Planetarium to meet requirements. 
  • Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Webelos can spend the night at the museum during the Scout Overnight! Scouts can all have an exclusive adventure through the museum exhibit halls, with activities and a special program in the Burke Baker Planetarium, where Scouts have a clear night adventure under the stars!

The Health Museum offers a variety of classes for Scouts. Private classes can also be scheduled for groups of 10 or more Scouts on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Webelos and can work a variety of advancements.
  • Boy Scouts can work on several different merit badges.

 


The Houston Zoo offers a spend the night at the zoo for a unique, after-hours experience which includes interactive activities, touchable animals, pizza dinner, Scout advancements on certain nights, and a continental breakfast!  

 


The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center offers a variety of workshops for Scouts. Scouts investigate the nature sanctuary with a naturalist and learn about the fascinating ecology of the forest. All of the Scout programs are conducted by staff naturalists and use the nature sanctuary as a field laboratory for hands-on explorations!

  • Bears can work on the Fur, Feather, and Ferns adventure.
  • Webelos can work on the Webelos Into Wild adventure.
  • Boy Scouts can work on the Bird Study merit badge and conduct Eagle Scout projects.
  • Scout groups can take a one-hour guided hike through the woods called a Forest Trek. Along the way, Scouts look for wild animals and their habitats, and learn to identify signs of nature.

The Weather Center Houston offers the Boy Scout Weather merit badge.

 

 


The Armand Bayou Nature Center offers a variety of classes for Scouts.

  • Wolves: Paws on the Path
  • Bear: Fur, Feathers and Ferns.  
  • Webelos: Into the Wild and Into the Woods

Merit Badge Days are an opportunity for Boy Scouts or Venturers, of any rank, to work on several merit badges. Classes are taught by adults with experience in the field. The following districts hold merit badge events:

Battleship Texas State Historic Site (LaPorte, TX)

Battleship Texas took part in some of the most significant naval battles of the 20th century during both world wars. Now docked along the Houston Ship Channel, she serves as a memorial to those turbulent times. Come walk her decks, and imagine life as a sailor! Explore the battleship on your own or on a guided tours. Visit the ​San Jacinto Battleground, Monument Observation Floor and San Jacinto Museum of History. Groups can spend the night aboard the ship as part of the Battleship Texas Youth Overnight Education Program. Sleep in the crew quarters, tour parts of the ship closed to the public, and experience life as a sailor during World War II.
